Question for all Mothers, Fathers, Nannies, and more out there!!!

I'm currently working on an article about timeout for kids. In the beginning I'm trying to compare the newer generations (timeout) to the older generations (mine with spanking). How much better are the two? Which one works better in order to make children behave.

For the last seven days I've been taking care of my niece. She's three and is an out of control child (at least with her mother). I placed her in timeout a few times and it worked like a charm. She sat there for 3 minutes (as many minutes as her age - learned that from Jo on Super Nanny). She cried for a minute (no tears) and then just sat there. Once the timer went off I got down to her level and told her why I put her in timeout and asked her to say she was sorry. She did and I hugged her and she got up and went about her business... until the next timeout. In seven days she was only in timeout about 3 times.

Anyway, back to my article. If you're a mother and use either timeout or spanking, please contact me via email with a few quotes I can use in my article. I'll contact you back letting you know if I decide to use the quotes. Thanks so much everyone. I should be back on my blog full-time after July 4th since there is so much going on lately. Thank you all for still checking in and keeping in contact. I miss everyone.

Clearly, I am not a mother, but I wanted to say that it sounds like you did the best possible job of handling the situation, IMHO.

That is the way it should be done! Excellent job. :)

Wish I could help... but I'm not a mum. Still, it sounds like you did a good job!
