The Love/Hate Relationship

I have recently come to the conclusion that I have a love/hate relationship with my job. I love it because I can work at home, I set my own hours (as long as I meet deadline), I have no boss leaning over my shoulder except Buddy my cat of course, I can take lunch whenever I'm hungry, I can work from anywhere that has an internet connection, and I can be close to my family at anytime. My hate for it is the fact that I have to work on Saturdays, Sundays, and sometimes at night just to meet a deadline. I hate that I don't get paid for overtime. You know that lovely time and a half you get on a paycheck. I sometimes have to work half a day on Holidays which I hope in the near future when finances allow I won't have to work the holidays and take a whole week off for Christmas. Oh such wishful thankful. But one day thats how it will be. :)

Along with the conclusion of my relationship with my job, I have also come to the conclusion that I also have a love/hate relationship with MC in my current WIP. She seems to be going her own way no matter how I try to steer her back to what and where she should be. She drives me nuts. I'm about to write her right out of the book and let her best friend take the spotlight. But you know that won't happen. I know I'll eventually figure it out.

You gotta let those characters have their way, lol. My WIP originally had a different MC, but her friend kept popping up and making her story more interesting.

Thats what mine is doing. Morgan just keeping sticking her big head in the way and taking the spot light away from Jaslene.

Some day, I hope to be able to actually take part in your conversations about your "WIP." My lack of time (and concentration) is herding me towards short stories. I love your writing. Same goes for you Lisa...

Let the work take on a life of its own... believe me your FICTIONAL work will be better for it.

My work took off once I let this happen. It has become so much more than I ever could have done. Let the characters go, let them lead the story, you just write it down and see where it takes you.
You can always go back the fighting you characters if you don't like letting them direct things. What do you have to lose?

Thx

I totally understand your feelings on both counts. I am an elementary teacher and I love it, but it is exhausting and stressful and quite time consuming on many nights and weekends as well (with no overtime, lol). Wish I had more time with my kids and my hubby AND my novel.

I have learned to let my MC take me where she wants to go. We are both better for it, trust me. LOL...
