A Peek Inside... my new WIP

I thought I’d share a bit about what my newest novel is about. When this idea first popped in my head (about 5 days ago)  came out as a were wolf story with The Three Little Pigs twist. Well once I started writing it, I couldn’t really place the twist in there. I mean sure I could eventually, but as I wrote and thought about my story while painting my dining room, I thought about another well-known fairy tale -  Little Red Riding Hood.  What better story to rewrite for an older crowd of readers. I know, right?

Therefore, I figure this I can put it into the story with no problems, but with a twist. There will be no grandmother, but a best friend instead. The MC is a photojournalist who originally began looking for a story on legends in New Orleans, but instead discovered a different story to follow and is now in search of a story about the Loup-Garou who is the Wolf.

This story just would not leave me alone, so for a day or so I only thought about it. How everything would begin and end. Even as I tanned, images of the MC and the wolf ran through my head like a film clip. Her running down the street with her best friend who followed her to New Orleans, the two eating dinner in little cafes, and shopping in the small voodoo shops. The entire book is playing over and over in my head like a movie – I guess that’s why its been so easy to write thus far. I’m just so ecstatic about this book. And believe it or not I even have my boyfriends support this time around. My last project or three, he wasn’t supportive, but this time he was. He listened to what my story was about and said it was a great idea. He even ask me when he gets home if I wrote more of my story that day.  He hasn’t asked to read it yet, but I expect that. He’s not a reader unless it involves Camaro’s, engines, Hot Rods, well you get the idea.

Happy Friday Everyone!

Wow this week just flew by. I hope everyone is enjoying the awesome weather on this great Friday afternoon. I have chosen to work on my book today, at least for the most part. In between writing I've been checking out some of the blogs I follow. Something I've been lacking on lately due to being involved in a ton of other things. I want to thank all of you who follow my blog and leave comments here and there. I'm trying to keep up with and return the favor.

There's still so much to get done before our guests come to stay for a few weeks. Eleven days to be exact. The guest room has been completed and there are only 2 rooms left to do finished. Once they're done, the tile can be placed and the carpet can be installed.

Well, back to my writing. I'm on chapter 3 and its all flowing out pretty well.  I'm writing about 1,500 words a day now. I plan to write more today though. So far, so good - knock on wood.

Update: Today I've written 3,000 + words on my novel.

Writing Buddies...

As a writer I understand the need to be immersed in the writing world. But not just the writing world of knowledge and information, I mean the world of other writers. I know there are a lot of writers who have writing buddies. I've been searching for a writing buddy for a while now, but haven't found one who keeps in constant contact. It's alright though, I still have my good friend that I run things by here and there.

Do you have a writing buddy? (Not one that writes the same novel as you, but one that is a writer who is currently working on their own projects, but also helps you work through your tough spots within your own work.)

How do you help each other?

How did you find your writing buddy? Online? Writers Group? Etc.?

Do you and your writing buddy write in the same genre?

I guess I'm curious cause I just would like to find someone who writes in my same genre. I've searched for writing buddies online. Some respond a few times, then I never hear from the ever again. Other send piles of writing to my inbox on the first response as if I'm their editor, then there are those who want to read any and everything I have written (I tend to steer clear of those in fear of my work being stolen). I'm iffy on sending out my work to just anyone and any writer can understand that. I don't think anyone has ever read my work other than just bits and pieces that I send out, but that only applies to my good writing friend. No one else has ever read a full manuscript I've written.

UPDATE: I've written over 1,600 words on my new novel project. The words just keep flowing out. I wish I had a title for it, but I know that will come soon enough. Oh, I'm so excited!!! I even skipped my tanning session today so that I could write my book.

Oh and how do you like my new template for my blog? Orange - one of my favorite colors along with reds, browns, oranges, and blues.

Random Entry...

As writers, we typically write. And by write, I mean we write everything down no matter what it is. We write to do list, grocery list, notes on things we may want to write, character sketches on people we know or do not know. For writers, writing comes naturally. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it comes naturally good, but as a writer, I write down a lot of ideas, even if I don't foresee anything ever coming from it. I always want and need to option of having the chance to use some of those ideas somewhere in my writing.

Today's writing project (A new idea that popped into my head last night and I jotted it down into a screen writing book I'm reading) that I have began writing has a lot of hope. By hope, I'm basically mean that I hope I can create this awesome idea into a best selling novel or at most create 80,000 words. I have a small amount of doubt about this, but clearly not enough to deter me from going further. I guess my doubt popped up when I discovered I can't figure out what color my MC's eyes are. Yes I know, silly right? The color is very important in the beginning here because of what the townsfolk call her. Her name is Gemma and the townsfolk call her "the gem of Redwood". So see my small predicament. I know it'll come to me at some point, but as for the moment, I'm stuck.

Yesterday, my best friend sent me a link to a great writing site called Fuel Your Writing. It has a lot of useful information on it that feeds or fuels your writing.

With my huge list of "Things to Do" I can finally cross one off my list. I completed the guest room remodel finally. There are a few tweaks that need to be done like two bedside lamps and a few pictures on the walls, but other than that, it's completed. I can't wait for the rest of the house to be completed, then I can go back to my normal daily life of writing and creating.

Ideas… From Who, What, When, How, & Where?

Writers are known for their creativity, their wild imaginations, and the ability to put thoughts into well rounded words onto paper for those who lack that ability to read and enjoy… (and sometimes envy). But the question is, where does this special breed of human get their ideas from. What deep well do they dig those creative characters out of and what cave do they enter to find that wild imagination? Many writers get their ideas from the world around them. Article writers for Parenting magazines watch their own children or other people's children and the ideas of articles begin to flow. The same also applies for writers of sports, animals, and even car enthusiasts. The ideas for their stories and articles all thrived from somewhere within planet Earth.
